What is Responsive Web Design?

Our web browsing habits have changed over the last few years and with more than half of the 90% of Americans who have a cell phone owning a smartphone, this has led to an ever-increasing usage of these mobile devices to access web pages on the go.

Any website owner who has not already adapted their site to make their content user-friendly across all platforms whether it is smartphones, tablets or PC’s, will struggle to make an impact and keep surfers on their site for any length of time.

Less than 5% of consumers have experienced issues and expressed dissatisfaction with sites that are basically mobile-unfriendly, which is why Responsive Web Design has enjoyed such stellar growth in popularity recently. This technology allows you to create web content that functions across most platforms and formats, which means that it has become an invaluable commodity for websites who want to give all their visitors the same enjoyable browsing experience, regardless of whether they are surfing the net using a smartphone, tablet or PC.

Responsive design is not as difficult or complicated to incorporate into your design as you might fear and even minor adjustments to your existing content can potentially pay major dividends. One of the best examples of why Responsive Web Design works and what it can do is the flexibility and fluidity it offers when users are downloading content. Traditional web design does not have the same reactive qualities and with this new design concept, you can achieve on-the-fly resizing of content irrespective of screen size or platform, as the scaling is based on proportions rather than absolute dimensions.

This infographic is aimed at simplifying the technical aspects of Responsive Web Design and illustrating the advantages of using it on your website content, so that visitors stay longer and hopefully even do some business with you.
